Eligibility
The event is open only to Texas residents with a valid US Chess (valid through March 2026) and TCA membership. All sections are US Chess rated, and the March 2026 US Chess rating supplement will be used for pairings and prizes.
Winners of the Championship sections will earn official Texas State Champion titles. The top finishers in key sections will also qualify for the 2026 Texas Junior Invitational, and team results determine qualification for the 2026 Lone Star Cup.

$65 by February 7, $75 by February 21, $85 by March 6 by 9pm, Onsite $95 with 1st round bye.

Forfeit Rule
Players who fail to appear within 30 minutes of round start forfeit the game unless the Chief TD otherwise provides for good cause.

Pairings will be posted online 40 minutes before round start.
All changes must be submitted through the Change Request Form 60 minutes prior to each round starting.
Side Events
Texas Scholastic Blitz Championship: March 6th 7:00pm. The entry fee is $20. Rated.
Texas Scholastic Bughouse Championship: March 7th 8:00pm. $40 per team.
Texas Scholastic Puzzles Championship: TBD. The entry fee is $20.
TCA Junior Chess Meeting: This is a business meeting where members will hear reports from officers and vote on important business affecting the Association. All TCA members who are Texas residents and at least 16 years of age are voting members. Everyone is welcome to attend. An agenda will be posted on the TCA website at least two weeks in advance.
Other Rules and Information
Chess sets provided; bring your own clock
Notation required except for K-1 and Primary JV. Time deduction will be ⅓ of your time for no notation. Must use tournament provided notation.
Food and drinks are not allowed in the playing hall. Water is the only exception.
Players may request up to two half-point byes before the end of Round 3. All bye requests after will be 0 points.
No electronic devices (except necessary medical equipment and clocks).
Players may use electronic notation devices endorsed by US Chess.
Only players whose game is in progress, tournament directors and staff, TCA officers, and press are allowed in the hall during rounds.
Refunds available until March 4th, subject to a $20 fee.
Only Texas residents are eligible for state champion titles.
Players requiring accommodations due to disability or religious reasons should contact the organizer as soon as possible, preferably at least two weeks before the tournament.

Special Notes
In accordance with TCA Invitational policy, winners of designated championship sections will qualify for the 2026 Texas Junior Invitational.
Based on final team standings at the Texas Scholastic State Championships, the top four teams in each championship section will earn spots in 2026 Lone Star Cup, an elite online team based round robin playoff conducted under its own rules and format.
