Empire Chess Training – GVS Scholastic Chess Tournament – Saturday Feb 7, 2026

General Information:

Game Format: Swiss System
- Novice (I and II) and Elementary will play 4 games
- Advanced and Championship will play 3 games
- Time control of G/25;d5 for ELEMENTARY (K-6)
- Time control of G/40;d5 for ADVANCED (K-12)
- Time control of G/45;d5 for CHAMPIONSHIP (K-12)
Date: November 8th, December 6th, January 10th, February 7, April 18, May 9, June 6
Venue: Gantry View School (5-36 50th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101)
USCF Membership: Current USCF membership required for all sections, except Novice (I and II)
Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the event to check-in.
Equipment: Chess sets, chess clocks, and notation sheets provided
All participants under 18 must be chaperoned by an adult or guardian. If you want to drop off, please email empire.chess.tournament@gmail.com
To ensure a safe and focused environment, we ask that waiting children engage in quiet activities. Loud games and running in the hallways or waiting areas are prohibited.

Tournament Sections:

NOVICE 1 (PreK-1) – Unrated (will not be USCF rated). No clock and notation (4 rounds)
- Awards/Prizes: Trophies for top 3. Medals for all other players with 2 points and up.
NOVICE 2 (Grades 2-5) – Unrated (will not be USCF rated). No clock and notation (4 rounds)
- Awards/Prizes: Trophies for top 3. Medals for all other players with 2 points and up.
ELEMENTARY (K-6) – USCF 600 and under (USCF Rated), G/25;d5 (4 rounds)
- Awards/Prizes: Trophies for top 3. Medals for all other players with 2 points and up.
ADVANCED (K-12) – USCF 1200 and under (USCF Rated), G/40;d5 (3 rounds)
- Awards/Prizes: Trophies for top 3. Medals for all other players with 2 points and up.
CHAMPIONSHIP (K-12) – USCF 1200+ (USCF Rated), G/45;d5 (3 rounds)
- Awards/Prizes: Trophies for top 3. $150 for 1st Place, $80 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd Place. (B/14 Entries)

After Check-In for the section, the round will start ASAP

Awards Ceremony – To be held immediately after the section concludes

USCF Membership

Active USCF membership is required to participate in the rated sections
If you are not a member, or has an expired membership, please JOIN / RENEW MEMBERSHIP

Half point byes may be requested as follows:

All half-point bye requests must be made prior to round 2 pairings.
Half-point bye requests cannot be changed once round 2 is paired.
