It shows 9:00-6:30pm as the timing but that is to encompass all the sections. Please refer to the above table for your specific section Round 1 start times. All rounds should be prepared to stay until the end. \n💸 $2\,000 guaranteed prize fund for top two sections\, trophies for the rest\n🚗 Parking Options (As low as $15 from 7:30am-7:30pm less than 5 blocks away – pricing confirmed as of 9/15/26):\nStreet parking is relatively plentiful for Manhattan but below are some reasonable garage options: \nClick for SpotHero Options \nClick for ParkWhiz Options \n  \n\n\n\nFour Independent Tournaments. One Exciting Season.\nEvery Fall Showdown weekend is a complete standalone US Chess-rated Swiss tournament. \nCompete for individual and team trophies\, enjoy four exciting rounds of chess (three rounds in the 1900+ section)\, and earn points toward the Fall Showdown Season Championship individual and team trophies. \nYou can play just this event or compete in all four weekends. The choice is completely yours. \nRegister for Sunday September 1\, 2026 event at bottom of the page and compete for the trophies (lower sections) or the cash (top 2 sections)  … either way\, it’s time to go for the gold. \nLinks to register for additional weeks: \n\nWeek 2 Sunday 10/11/2026- Link to come\nWeek 3 Sunday 11/22/2026 – Link to come\nWeek 4 Sunday 12/20/2026 – Link to come\n\n\n\n\nFall Showdown Season Series\nThis tournament is one of four weekends that make up the Official Chess Fall Showdown Season. \nPlayers who compete in multiple weekends earn points toward our Season Championships while still competing for a full set of awards every single weekend. \nEvery weekend has: \n\nIts own Swiss Pairings\nIndividual standings\nTeam standings\nIndividual trophies\nTeam trophies\n\nPlayers also earn Season Championship points that accumulate throughout the Fall. \n\n\n\nBuild Any Team You Want\nFor the top two cash prize sections\, teammates will have to play each other whenever required by the Swiss pairing system. \nHowever\, in the other sections\, we will make every effort to avoid pairing teammates against one another\, except in the rare instances where no other pairing is possible. \nWe considered this policy carefully and believe it provides a more rewarding experience for participants while preserving the integrity and fairness of the tournament. \nCreate a team with your: \n\nSchool\nChess Club\nChess Academy\nCoach\nFamily\nFriends\nSummer Camp\nNeighborhood\nCondo Building\nAny organization\n\nThere are no rosters to submit. \nSimply register under the exact same team name and everyone will automatically be on the same team. \nTo avoid confusion\, choose a unique team name whenever possible. \nBefore registering\, check the Advanced Listings to see whether another team is already using your desired name unless you intend to join that team. \nA simple way to make your team unique is to add a number\, such as Brooklyn Knights 67. \nPlayers may switch teams between tournament weekends. Previous scores remain with the previous team while future scores count toward the new team. \nMaximum 25 players per team each weekend. \n\n\n\nAdults Can Play Too!\nParents\, coaches\, and other adults are welcome to compete in the 900–1300 section and above. \nFor the first time\, families can actually compete together on the same team. \n\n\n\n1900+ Section Adjustment for Overall Team Scoring\nThis tournament uses the standard Swiss scoring methodology (1 point for a win\, 0.5 for a draw and 0 for a loss) \nSince the 1900+ section plays only three rounds (versus 4 for other sections)\, scoring is adjusted accordingly for Team Trophy purposes. \n\nWin = 1 ⅓ point\nDraw = ⅔ point\nLoss = 0 points\n\n\n\n\nSection Time Controls and Start Times\n(PLEASE NOTE STAGGERED ROUND 1 START TIMES) \nAll sections use Swiss Pairings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSection\nFormat\nRound Start Times\n\n\nUnrated–600 (Scholastic Only)\n4 Rounds • G/30 d5\n12:00 PM\, 1:30 PM\, 2:45 PM\, 4:00 PM\n\n\n500–1000 (Scholastic Only)\n4 Rounds • G/40 d5\n11:00 AM\, 1:00 PM\, 2:30 PM\, 4:00 PM\n\n\n900–1300\n4 Rounds • G/50 d5\n9:30 AM\, 11:30 AM\, 1:45 PM\, 3:45 PM\n\n\n1200–1600\n4 Rounds • G/50 d5\n9:30 AM\, 11:30 AM\, 1:45 PM\, 3:45 PM\n\n\n1600–2000\n4 Rounds • G/50 d5\n9:30 AM\, 11:30 AM\, 1:45 PM\, 3:45 PM\n\n\n1900+\n3 Rounds • G/70 d5\n9:30 AM\, 12:30 PM\, 3:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**Note that round start times for every round are set\, just like at major championships. Matches are allowed to begin earlier if both opponents are at the Board. \nAll sections use Swiss Pairings. Official September US Chess Published Ratings will be used. \nYou may choose to play in that higher section ONLY if your Live US Chess Rating exceeds a section’s minimum rating (even if your published rating is not). \n2 Byes Permitted – You will receive the same amount of tournament points as a draw (Byes do not affect USCF rating) \n\n\n\nAwards\nEvery tournament weekend awards: \n\nCash prizes for top two sections\n\n1900+ Section: $1250 ($600 for 1st\, $300\, $150\, $100 and $100)\n1500-2000 Section: $750 ($350 for 1st\, $150\, $100\, $100 and $50)\nMonetary awards will be split in cases of ties – e.g. If 2 players in the 1900+ section tie for first based on points\, they will each take home $450 (equal share of the first and second place prizes)\n\n\nIndividual trophies for lower sections\nTeam trophies in every section\nOverall Team Championship trophies across all sections\n\nTeam scoring: \n\nTop 3 scores from a team within each section count toward that section’s Team Championship.\nTop 6 scores from any combination of sections count toward the Overall Team Championship.\n\nPlayers also earn Season Championship points\, including extra bonus points for every additional tournament weekend they play. \n\n\n\nCoaches Corner (Entry PLUS ticket required)\nNo personal coach to review your games and no Team Room?  We have you covered! (Register for “Entry PLUS” at checkout)* \n\nUpgrade your experience and improve your chances at trophies!\nDedicated MASTER-level players and professional coaches will be on-site in the Coaches Corner\, offering real-time game reviews\, tips\, and personalized advice in between rounds\nGain insights in real time while your moves and reasoning is still fresh\nQuickly uncover critical mistakes and missed opportunities to strengthen your play and boost your chances in the very next round\nThere’s no faster or more effective way to build both short-term results and long-term chess skills\nThe list of coaches can be found at the end of this posting and will be continuously updated\n\n  \n\n\n\nEntry Fee\nBasic Entry $69 – (Increases $79 on Sept 17) \nEntry Plus is $36 additional \nPlayers who compete in multiple 2026 Fall Showdown weekends will receive a 5% refund on all tournament entry fees after the completion of the Fall Showdown Season. \n\n\n\nOther Information\nThis is not a drop-off event.
